- 2 cups milk, divided
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup Swans Down® Cake Flour
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 large egg yolks
- 2 cups (4 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
- Sifted confectioners’ sugar, to taste
The combination of custard and whipped butter creates a frosting that is similar to a whipped cream icing. Light, and creamy and less sweet than American buttercream, it pairs well with chocolate and spiced cakes.
